Former White House Chief Of Staffs Appeal Denied

Federal Appeals Court Rejects Mark Meadows' Attempt to Move Election Interference Case to Federal Court

Former White House Chief of Staff's Appeal Denied

A federal appeals court has rejected former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows' attempt to move his Georgia election interference case to federal court. The Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit considered Meadows' appeal on Monday but ultimately ruled against him, upholding a lower court's decision.

The underlying case stems from allegations that Meadows unlawfully tried to influence the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Prosecutors have accused him of pressuring local officials to overturn the results of the election, which President Joe Biden won. Meadows has denied any wrongdoing.

Move to Federal Court Denied

In an attempt to avoid state prosecution, Meadows sought to have his case moved to federal court. He argued that the alleged offenses occurred in his role as a federal employee and therefore should be handled by the federal justice system.

However, the appeals court panel rejected Meadows' arguments. The panel ruled that the alleged offenses did not arise from Meadows' federal employment and that the state court had jurisdiction over the case. The panel also found that Meadows did not show that he would face "irreparable harm" if the case remained in state court.

As a result of the appeals court's decision, Meadows' case will continue to be heard in Georgia state court. He is scheduled to face trial in January 2023.
